Entrepreneurship
Small business development is a priority for the Coeur d'Alene
Reservation. In 2006, with funding from an internal University of Idaho
Community Development grant, the Extension Educator collaborated with
Tribal Social Services and Planning staff and the University's Social
Science Research Unit to develop a survey to determine technical
assistance needs for would-be entrepreneurs.
Youth Development
Youth development is a major focus of the FRTEP - Coeur d'Alene
Reservation program. FRTEP is a partner in the school district's After
School Success Center, and offers 4-H enrichment activities twice
weekly to approximately 35 third - fifth graders. Additionally, FRTEP
has partnered with the Tribal Wellness Center for the last two summers
as a committee member for their Rockin' the Rez summer camp, which
serves nearly 200 students for five weeks.
Community Development
Both the City of Plummer, the largest community on the Reservation and
the Coeur d'Alene Tribe are in the process of assembling their
Comprehensive plans. The FRTEP Educator facilitated a series of
meetings, attended by over 80 participants that included goals,
concerns, and values and vision activities. By combining Tribal and
City resources in sponsoring these events, held between May, 2006 and
November, 2006, both the Tribe and the City were able to gather rich
input on the community's thoughts and desires on Plummer's future.
