Environmental Education Initiatives
The Pine Ridge office has engaged in a number of environmental
education initiatives. South Dakota Rangeland Days is an annual event
involving SDSU, Oglala Lakota College, NRCS and several other local
partners; at the two regional events recently held the Extension
office helped plan and organize learning activities for ages 8-adult,
in such topics as plant morphology and identification and range
suitability for cattle or grouse habitat.
For the Summer camp
held in the Black Hills, the Pine Ridge Office developed a curriculum
for using GPS units, and another curriculum teaching about
biotechnology in agriculture. Many Lakota youth are regular attendees
at the week-long summer camp.
